PAL, SECAM, and NTSC are the 3 major analog television systems once used worldwide to encode color and display images. They are incompatible with one another, meaning both the VHS tape and player must follow the same standard for proper functioning.
PAL/SECAM tapes require the use of compatible foreign-made VHS players, which are hard to find and expensive, here in the US. As such, we charge a small fee (5$/tape) for each of these tapes, in addition to any tip you might donate. This minimal fee is important to maintain our operations.
NTSC tapes require the use of compatible US-made VHS players, which are more readily available, here in the US. As such, we apply the "pay what you want" policy (1c/tape) for each of these tapes, in addition to any tip you might donate.
Each tape (~2hrs) generates a H.264-encoded MP4 file (50 FPS) that is ~15GB in size. We provide this format for no additional cost.
Alternatively, we can compress your videos for a fee (5$): we generate H.265-encoded MP4 (30 FPS), which would only require ~5GB of storage, without noticeable loss in video quality.
If you're satisfied with a job we completed and would like to "pay what you want", please do so by using our tip jar.
